Birds nesting in your roof is becoming more and more common, especially in domestic houses. Most people will not even realise they have birds nesting in their roof until they have babies and then it will be non-stop chirping. Unfortunately, it is recommended to wait until the babies have left the nest before doing any bird proofing, as the mothers will abandon their nest if humans go near it and the babies will most likely die.

Bird Spikes

Bird Spikes are one of the more

common tools to use when proofing your home from birds. Most bird spikes are made with high quality stainless steel, which means they are strong and will not be affected by the weather. There are different types of bird spikes, depending on your situation and which birds you are having issues with. You can also get spikes for guttering, eaves, solar panels, and window ledges.

Bird Netting

Bird netting can also be used in combatting bird infestations. You might commonly see these nets on commercial buildings, mainly until the eaves, to stop birds from being able to access that area.

The netting can come in a wide variety of sizes, depending on your situation and the birds you are having issues with. These nets don’t absorb water and do not stretch over time, meaning you won’t need to replace them very often. You can also use bird netting for vegetable gardens/trees, to prevent birds eating your home-grown goods.

Brush Guards

Brush Guards are another solution for house that have birds nesting in the corners of their gutters. They kind of look like big pipe cleaners and you can just purchase them from Bunnings. They are mainly designed for Colourbond roof houses as birds don’t tend to nest in gutters with tiled roofs. Bird Free Optical Gels

Bird Free Optical Gels are a great way or warding off birds if mechanical systems like spikes or netting are not suitable. Once applied, birds will desert an area, even if they have been there for years.
