About Fleas
Fleas can be a really big problem in homes, especially where there are pets in the home. They not only cause issues for our pets but can also cause bites/rashes on people. Homes with pets or with an infestation of pests like rodents (rats & mice), stray cats or possums often find themselves with a flea infestation.
I just moved in why do I have fleas?
This is because sometimes fleas can live unknowing with a homeowner and their pets but once they have moved out the fleas go dormant waiting for a new feed to come along. As soon as the fleas sense the vibrations of the new owners moving in they may become active.
Treating pets and why?
Our pets are greatly affected by fleas not only do they cause discomfort through biting our pets but they are also carriers of the tapeworm parasite. Because of this, it is important to make sure you treat your pets for worms and fleas on the same day as your treatment with us.
What can you do before Flea Treatments?
To ensure your flea treatment is as effective as possible we recommend completing the following tasks before the treatment:
- Lawns should be mowed as short as possible before treating, this is because the chemical used bonds with the soil.
- Make sure not to have any washing out on the day of treatment.
- Pets should all be taken on the day of treatment and also treated for both worms and fleas.
- All carpet areas within the home should be as accessible as possible "all kids toys and clothes picked up etc".
- All bedding and clothing should be washed in hot water if possible "hot water will kill and remove eggs if they are present".
Vacating time for a Flea Treatment
All people/pets are required to vacate for 4 hours as a minimum.
